Lecture of Alan Francis on Gurdjieff Work20 May, 20:00 Gurdjieff began his search when he was 11 or 12 years. He sought answers to questions that relate to the heart of each one of us. He studied Western science, Orthodox Christianity, Sufism, Tibetan Buddhism, yoga and many other traditions. But he could not find an answer to the basic question: why am I here and what is the purpose of life on Earth, and, in particular, human life. After many years of searching, he was initiated into the fraternity Sarmung in Central Asia. There he found what he sought, including now well-known symbol - Enneagram. Like Buddha and Lao Tzu long before him, he gave birth to an entirely new and independent teaching, developed for the 21 st century. Gurdjieff brought us the most practical and effective tools for the complete conscious transformation. Alan Francis (USA) from 1969 to 1984 worked in the group of Jim Flynn, under the overall guidance of John Pentland - a man whom Gurdjieff before his death appointed the head of Gurdjieff Work in America. After the death of John Pentland, Alan Francis continued his studies under the guidance of Michel de Salzmann – the head of Gurdjieff Foundation after Jeanne de Salzmann. Currently, Alan Francis leads the group and participates in the development and promotion of Work in the U.S. and around the world. Alan actively combines his training and work under Gurdjieff's Work with the study of shamanistic tradition. Since 1970 he is engaged in the study and practice of Native American shamanism. He traveled to Mexico, meeting and practicing with the local shamans, learning from them their worldview and participating in rituals. In addition, Alan studied Taoist shamanic practices, and in 1971-1989 he worked as a healer, using Taoist techniques and technology of American Indians. From 1978 to 983 he was dean and one of the founders of California College of Acupuncture. From 1986 to 1989, Alan Francis founded and was director of the center of social work with drug addicts and alcoholics in Los Angeles. For many years he is giving classes in Taoist alchemy and Taiji and Qigong. He promotes Gurdjieff's work throughout the world. |
