"Kundun" (1997) is a movie directed by Martin Scorsese dedicated to Dalai Lama XIV - the religious and spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism.

The film deals with the tragic fate of the 14th Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Buddhists all over the world and the greatest religious figure of our age. Reminiscences of his childhood and youth are filled with anxieties about the future of the ancient nation and full of determined efforts to defend the right of Tibet for religious and political independence. After the Chinese invasion Dalai Lama had to go into hiding in India where he is still in exile drawing the world community’s attention to his people’s troubles and sufferings. This story is about a unique young man who is endowed with knowledge and age-old wisdom and whose invincible faith and will is a worthy example for everyone who cherishes freedom and justice.

This overwhelming film made in the most picturesque parts of Morocco and India demonstrates the perfect work of operator and art director and is accompanied by unique music of Philip Glass.
