Kundun in Moscow

The KUNDUN, an epic biographical film based on the life and writings of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, a straightforward chronology with events spanning from the search of the 14th Dalai Lama in 1937 to 1959 Tibetan National Uprising against Chinese occupation, which was dubbed in Russian, was screened in the capital of Russia.

It was organised by White Cloud Culture Center and Moscow-based Tibet House in collaboration with Tibet Culture & Information Center, an official agency of Central Tibetan Administration, on last Friday. The film was written by Melissa Mathison and directed by Martin Scorsese.

After the film show, Representative Nawang Rabgyal welcomed questions from the Russian audience. Several questions, such as, reincarnation system, Beijing’s claim to recognition of the Dalai Lamas, current situation in Tibet, struggle of Tibetan people, Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetans in-exile, visit of His Holiness to Russia and others asked from the audience were answered by Representative N. Rabgyal.

Another film SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET, based on book Seven Years in Tibet written by Heinrich Harrer on his experiences in Tibet between 1944 and 1951, when 17-Point Agreement was signed under the duress, which is also dubbed in Russian, will be screened in Moscow on 31st August.

The above two films will go with Flame of Truth Torch to Kalmyk Republic  for public show during the 20th anniversary of founding of Friends of Tibet Society in Kalmykia, which will be observed from 2nd to 7th September with exhibition and a series of teachings and talks on Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhist cultural heritage and situation in Tibet by Geshe Lhakdor, Director of Tibetan Library, and Representative N. Rabgyal respectively. From Kalmykia the above two films, exhibition and Flame of Truth torch will tour to Tuva Republic in Russian Federation from 8th to 16th September.
