We need Climate Action for the Roof of the World

The urgent climate change issues Tibet faces must be on the global agenda in the lead up to and during the upcoming COP21 UN climate summit in Paris.

Tibet is facing retreating glaciers, deteriorating permafrost, degrading grasslands and increasing desertification. Over the past 50 years, the temperature of the Tibetan Plateau has increased three times the global average.

That’s why we’ve just launched a new campaign called:  Tibet - Climate Action for the Roof of the World. And we need your help to put Tibet, known as the Roof of the World, on the global climate change agenda.

Here’s what you can do to help build momentum for climate action for Tibet:

1. Join our Roof of the World Thunderclap Thunderclap
Our Thunderclap message will be shared all over the world at the same time on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.

2. Take the Roof of the World Photo Challenge
Show your solidarity for climate action for TIbet by taking a photo with your arms above your head to form a roof with your hands.  The Roof of the World Photo Challenge provides a platform for people the world over to tell world leaders gathering at COP21 that Tibet must be central to action on climate change.

Check out His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Roof of the World photo or other at Facebook.  Share your photo on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with this message: “I support #climateaction for #Tibet - the #RoofOfTheWorld #COP21”

3. Spread the Word
Share the Tibet - Climate Action for the Roof of the World campaign on social media. Follow the campaign on Twitter and Facebook and help us get the message out. As his Holiness the Dalai Lama says: “The Tibetan Plateau needs to be protected, not just for Tibetans but for the health and sustainability of the entire world.”
