Visit of the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine

The Central Council of Tibetan Medicine and Tibet House in Moscow invite everybody to attend the public lecture “Tibetan Medicine: Traditions and Practice” which will be held on February 15.

Living in Europe or America it is not so easy to be aware of Tibetan medicine hidden up to the 20th century. Due to many factors Tibet has become more accessible to foreigners but the Tibetan sciences are still full of mysteries and legends. The mission of the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine is to raise awareness about the ancient Tibetan science of Sowa Rigpa; to secure patients, citizens and professionals against populism; to provide high standards of medical education and strive to the Tibetan practitioners’ compliance with the ethics code.

We look forward to see here a wide audience: medical students, orientalists and practicing physicians.

The lecture will hold by Dr. Lobsang Tenzin Ragdho, the professor of the Central University of Tibetan Studies, Chairman of the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine in India.

The audience will be offered the following topics:

• Sowa Rigpa or Tibetan medicine?
• Concept of Sowa Rigpa
• Efficiency and popularity
• Medical traditions and institutes
• Legal status of Sowa Rigpa in India
• The Central Council of Tibetan Medicine (CCTM)
• Dialogue between Tibetan medicine and Western medical science

Prof. Dr. Lobsang Tenzin Ragdho, a reincarnation of Takphurinpoche of karshe Gaden Choekhorling, was born in 1956 in Kham (Eastern Tibet). In 1974-1978 he learnt Tibetan medicine in Kham. Then in 1979 he joined Men-Tsee-Khang in Lhasa and completed his course in 1985.

There during three years he served as a clinical doctor, a researcher and an editor and in 1988 he had to leave Tibet due to Chinese occupation. Upon arrival in India, Prof. Lobsang Tenzin worked as a lecturer in Men-Tsee-Khang College for 5 years and then he was entrusted with a duty to establish Sowa Rigpa Department at the Central University of Tibetan Studies (CUTS) in Sarnath, Varanasi (India). Sowa Rigpa Department was successfully established in 1993 and it became the additional teaching of Tibetan medicine and astrology. Prof. Lobsang Tenzin served to the students as a member of Academic Board, a senior lecturer, an examiner and a professor of Tibetan Medicine at CUTS, Varanasi. Besides, Prof. Lobsang Tenzin has published many books on Tibetan medicine and astrology and carried out research work with scholars from different parts of the world.

Since 1996 Prof. Lobsang Tenzin has been working as Dean of ChikitsaVidya Faculty at CUTS in Sarnath, Varanasi, and the Chairman of the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine.

• February 17:  Working seminar “Tibetan Pharmacology”.
  Beginning at 6:30 p.m.
• February 18:  Working seminar “Pulse Diagnosis”. 
  Beginning at 3:00 p.m.
• February 22:  Meeting with physicians of the Tibetan diaspora in Moscow.

• Consultation: Everyone interested can get health consultation by Dr. Lobsang Tenzin Ragdho. By appointment only. Number of visitors to be limited.
