Europe Regional Meeting of Tibet Support Groups Held in Latvia
Riga: Representative Chonpel Tsering, Office of Tibet, London and Tibet Support Group (TSG) Liaison officer, Ms Sonam Sangmo from Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR), attended the Europe Regional Meeting of Tibet Supports Group, held in Riga, Latvia from 5 – 7 May 2017. The purpose of meeting was to develop strategies for practical collaboration and strengthen inter-Group relationship to explore new campaigns to invigorate the movement; to develop strategies and action plans for CTA’s 2017 year of campaign; to build capacity through networking and collaboration to strengthen the Tibetan movement. TSG liaison officer, Ms Sonam Sangmo, in her presentation highlighted the significance of Kashag’s declaration to observe 2017 as Year of Campaign and 2018 as Year of Gratitude. She spoke on the campaign priorities of Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR). Sangmo spoke emphatically on CTA’s Middle Way Approach and urged the participants to inform and influence leaders in their respective countries to adopt resolutions and support dialogue with the People’s Republic of China. During the course of the meeting, a Q&A session was held with Representative Chonpel Tsering of OOT London and TSG liaison officer Sonam Sangmo. Key speakers at the meeting were Alison Reynolds, Executive Director International Tibet Network, Mr Martins Sics, Member of Latvian Parliament and Chair of the Tibet Support Group of the Latvian Parliament, Janis Martins Skuja from Society Latvia for Tibet. Mr Martins Sics, Member of Latvian Parliament and Chair of the Tibet Support Group of the Latvian Parliament addressed the second day of the meeting and expressed his whole hearted support for the Tibetan movement. The three-day meeting concluded successfully with participants expressing renewed motivation to continue their efforts for Tibet with better coordination and impacts. Members of Tibetan parliament from Europe, Ven Thupten Wangchen and Jampa Tsering Samdho also attended the meeting. A total of 55 participants from 21 countries around the world participated in the three-day meeting. The meeting was organised by International Tibet Network.
